When the fire on August 8th tore through Lahaina T

When the fire on August 8th tore through Lahaina Town friends from Minnesota were some of the first to reach out. I met Charlie Torgerson and his wife Lori in Maui a few years back. We became fast friends and not only because of the smoker that was in Lahaina Loft kitchen. February he and Lori were on Maui for their yearly trip. “Maui-Sota” ribs were created and became one of his dishes for the Minnesota State Fair. Charlie generously donated a portion of the proceeds to Operation BBQ Relief who were already on the ground and supporting multiple places providing meals for displaced people due to the fire. Betsy Kadwit a life time friend with connection to our Park City days via her brother Howard jumped in and said let’s have a fundraiser. Together with other key people, Jack and Stephanie the fundraiser quickly became a reality. Proceeds from the food and Lahaina and Napili Fire Fighter shirts will go directly to the Maui Fire Fighters Relief Fund. Action and raffle items proceeds will be split between selected Maui Ohana members with direct ties to Lahaina Loft. Pictured is some of the items for “purchase”. It is always an honor to be recognized however this year comes with added emotions and feels as it is almost one month to the date of the loss of our beloved Lahaina Town including Lahaina Loft. I have been privileged to host and be a part so many special celebrations in the venue with our incredible community and couples from a far. So many of you have become life long friends and supporters of me and Lahaina Loft. I have been humbled being part of such an amazing and strong community based on aloha and love for one another. Thank you Top Rated Local for this wonderful award of recognition and to the beautiful community of Lahaina, Maui and beyond.

I just recently ran into Kale for the first time in forever. It was a quick hello but so meaningful. In many of our pre Lahaina Loft meetings Ben and I talked about opening and we talked about blessing the building. From day one I knew it had to be Kale. The blessing was done with a handful of us as we wanted it and it was perfect, Ben was thrilled. In our brief paths crossing the other day, Kale again was true to form and genuine.
